This year our President is Ray Buckley and below you will find a small insight into his life and thoughts abouts Lions.

I am looking forward to the coming year as President of Babbacombe & St. Marychurch Lions Club for 2011 – 2012. It is a great honour to be given the responsibility and I intend to continue the work and initiatives of previous Presidents.

I am originally from Dublin, but have lived in Devon for many years. I am married to Diane, a local girl and fellow Lion, and we have two sons, two grandchildren and a third due in August 2011.

I first worked with Babbacombe & St.Marychurch Lions on a Christmas Grotto for disabled children in 1998 and then joined the Club the following year. At the time I was member number Eight!!. The Club has now grown to twenty eight members which is testament to the hard work put in over the years and to the fun approach we all have.

This coming year is going to continue to throw up new challenges due to the ongoing financial hardships we all face. Fund raising is never easy and it is even more difficult when there is less disposable income among the general public. Yet, we continue to be humbled by the capacity for generosity shown at all of our events and continue to be grateful to the public who show faith in our ability to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

As a Lion, I take the responsibility very seriously and, as Lion President, I hope to make this coming year one that we can be proud of in terms of how many people we help and how many people’s lives we touch in a positive way.

Our Club meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the St.Marychurch & Babbacombe Conservative Club starting at 8pm. We also have commitee meetings on the 1st Tuesday of the month. Same time, same place.

We have many Fund raising events, socials and enter competitions throughout the year. Details of these events are listed on the appropriate page.
